The show can deliver story pretty well when it wants to. Emma's reveal was a bit of a mess, but her past and reason for helping Higan were told well this week. It also made me really curious as to what plan mr evil ninja has, he has sacrificed a lot in order to make it happen after all. Hell, there are barely any ninja left due to his actions. The fight this week was short and sweet, one enemy can be crossed off the list.

Still watching this one but it sure has dropped in quality compared to the first few episodes. The story has gone to shit and is jumping all over the place, the same can be said for the pacing and the show is failing horribly at setting up emotional moments. There are several big events that just lack impact because there was no proper build up at all. The fighting is still cool enough, I suppose, yet the rest being so poor is making that less enjoyable for me too.

Yeah, the animation dipped on this one.

But I will admit: I was low-key excited to see unequipped fighting again. The show was good for the first-half because of the fight scenes, until the Gusoku gear was introduced. Since then, things got a bit dull. Ninjas in robot suits fighting each other felt cheap to me.

And so it ends and I am left feeling quite disappointed. The show started off strong with an interesting premise, great action and a few interesting characters. As the show went on all of those things eventually turned to shit. The interesting premise become a contrived story and most of the characters were handled poorly especially when it comes to delivering a backstory for them (rip Emma). This leaves the great action and sadly those exhilarating fights made place for mech fights. The final fight was one big mech galore and boy did it kill the finale.

Episode 13 (Finale)

Yep, you know when your dominant emotion when a show ends is relief that you don't have to watch any more, something has gone awry. This didn't quite hit Metallic Rouge levels of loathing for me, but it wasn't far off. RIP Ninja Kamui, you shan't be missed.

Final:

Meh, 5/10.

I was a bit hyped when it first came out. Revenge stories have been done to death, but the sleek action sequences were enough to keep me interested and I sincerely wasn't expecting much from this show. Based on the premise, I was looking forward to ninjas fighting in a dystopian cyberpunk world.

But when the Gusoku gears were introduced, things just went downhill. Tropes were coming in troves—which I was expecting, by the way—but the way the Gusoku gear was brought into the fray just took out all the fun parts about ninjas and made it more about fighting in exo-suits, with the ninjas just being the plot device.

It could have been more stylish and even intriguing, but just ended up being safe and mediocre, unfortunately.

For years now,the ninja has been a part of popular culture, especially here in the States. From well-known shows like "Naruto" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" to little-known ones like "The Master" or "Shuriken School,"the ninja's taken it's place as a staple of popular culture around the world. Unsurprisingly, anime has also had it's spate of ninja shows because Japan gave birth to them.
Now,we have a new show that joins it ranks called "Ninja Kamui,"a thirteen episode show that does kinda well with what it has. A former ninja called Higan is living a quiet life in rural America with his wife and son. Unfortunately,it doesn't last. His wife and son are killed in an attack by members of his former clan. Now,he's going to take revenge on them with the fury of John Wick and Bruce Lee.

I heard on a YouTube video on this show said that it's kinda like an updated version of "Ninja Scroll" set in modern-day America. It may not have worked with the reviewer, but it did with me. In fact, there are times when the animetakes some cues from some of the ultraviolent action OVAs that made their way to America in the 1990's. The way Higan just cuts through his opponents like crazy can give some viewers reminders of those type of shows.
There are times when the show sputters, especially in the later episodes, but it does reasonably well in spite of that. I remember reading in the episode reviews of this show here on ANN in which the reviewer calls the metal suits they wear in the show tokusatsu suits and said that they belong in a less serious show than this. While I see the reviewer's point, they're not much of a problem. The people behind this anime make this work regardless of how silly it might look.

To be honest,I really didn't have much of a problem with "Ninja Kamui." There are a few hiccups with the show, but overall,I didn't have a lot of problems with it. There are those who'll say that I'm giving this show leniency because it's set in America. Well, that may be true, but I didn't have too much trouble with it. It did what you expected of it,and that's not too bad. It kinda falls in the middle with me,but hey. It wasn't an awful show and it should be taken for what it is. An action packed anime that basically did what it was supposed to. Nothing more and nothing less and basically,it didn't grate too much on me,so it worked there.
