The theatrical film version of the first Knights of Sidonia television anime season will open in theaters in Japan on March 6 and run for two weeks. Advance sales of a limited number of the film's Blu-ray Disc release will also go on sale in theaters for 5,000 yen (about US$43) on March 6. Regular sales of the film's Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases will begin on March 25.
The film will be a compilation of all 12 episodes of the season with new sequences and redone sound effects. Kobun Shizuno, the director of the first season, is also directing the movie.
Netflix streamed the series last summer after it aired in Japan last spring, and Sentai Filmworks licensed the series for home video. The second season, Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine, will premiere in April.
