I understand as a website dedicated to sharing anime news that the folks here had to cover this. It's extremely understandable. What is less understandable is how this basically reads like an advertisement that a company paid to have copy/pasted on this website.

It becomes EVEN less understandable that this was done so uncritically while the company behind this anime is literally on the BDS list right now and is actively being boycott for it helping fund a genocide.

ANN is a source I've always trusted to have nuance and discuss hard truths even when it isn't easy. From problematic mangaka to issues facing the industry, y'all always have been solid about not ignoring things and making mentions in articles when they are relevant where other publications might shy away in fear of losing closeness to sources. Because you all know the priority is reporting the REAL news above all else. It is something rare to find in today's news landscape on any subject.

This article is truthfully, a disappointment to that long standing legacy that I hope gets rectified.

Fun idea. I haven’t eaten fast food in years, but clearly many people still do. Not like McDonald’s really needed more sales.

@ Literal Grill: I'm not quite sure what you are so upset about. As you can see, the "article" is labelled as INTEREST: as opposed to NEWS:. It's been firmly established that articles labelled as Interest are not to be viewed as news stories. They are merely items that *may* be of interest to anime and manga fans. Yes, the whole thing is a massive ad for McDonald's but given that ANN is not pretending this is a news story I don't see the problem here.

The issue to me in uncritically running what is basically an ad for a company currently being boycott over funding and supporting a genocide. That's literally my issue entirely. Perhaps running it as interest instead of discussing it exists, why it may finally be existing currently as profits for the company are tanking due to said boycott (among other reasons) and how it's coming out as a huge distraction to push sales and to get people to ignore some extremely shady business practices isn't exactly ethical.

I complain because truly I love ANN coverage and most of the time they do such an awesome job covering things in this realm that this particular article is a disappointment.

Hmm, I've gotta say that running what is effectively an ad for a company that is currently under boycott also rubs me the wrong way; heck, running an ad is worse than running an actual news article. At least a news article doesn't have the implicit goal of increasing their profits.

But even that aside, seeing massive corporations trying to co-opt parody memes and turn them into advertising is also kinda gross. Same thing with the dumb KFC visual novel and Wendy's TTRPG from a few years ago...

Oh yeah, ruining a parody name will TOTALLY help bring people into the restaurant during the boycotts. That's not a desperate move at all! -_-

At least the Denny's parody names are safe.

Okay, if that's "literally your issue entirely" than starting your post like this:

Given that was your lead, I think it's pretty understandable how somebody like me thought you were taking exception to ANN running an advertorial dressed up as news.

Looks neat to me. I'm also really glad those cute Urachan ads for McDonalds came out last year before people started trying to police others for having fun.

Absolutely not. I've only ever heard/read staff state that they always try to report impartially/without opinion.
