Yakuza 8 sold 1 million units in the first week but only 1/10 of that in Japan, at least physically. Huh.

SEGA has generally focused on the overseas market for awhile now. Sonic has always been more popular in the west than in Japan. I think Like a Dragon is just following in those footsteps now in targetting western markets more now. At least that's how it feels when I saw that Twitch streamers and YouTubers were actual summons in one of the recent games. The series is in a much different place now than it was during the Kiryu era. I think it was after Yakuza 6 the series overseals sales started matching the Japanese ones.

Yeah, my friend asked me about the series shortly after Like a Dragon came out. He was more interested in the "reboot" of the series. Luckily even though I've only played 3 and 4 to completion with a bunch of hours in Zero (that damn Hostess side quest/mini-game should be standalone!) and the first 14ish hours of Like a Dragon I feel like there's not really a bad game in the series which is hard to say for an IP of 6 or more entries. He went for Like a Dragon when I told him the older games were sub only and kind of hard to follow the stories sometimes. He's a fan now.

There isn’t you just simply either have bad mechanics

- The random fights (works better in 7)
- Locking off sections of the map for most of the games
- Anything simulated that doesn’t involve player input i.e. the Catfight Club from 0/ Dojo Minigame from 4.
- There being no female enemies to fight though the game questionably makes exceptions for Trans characters which has some unfortunate implications. This also leads to one of the most unintentionally hilarious scenes in 7.
- The way 100% completion in many of these games are handled which requires winning at minigames including the aforementioned simulated ones along with ones that involve knowing how to play Mahjong or Shogi.

Or bad writing

- spoiler[Kaoru leaving after 3]
- Convenient reveals read ass pulls spoiler[(Rubber bullets),(the identity of Ichiban & Masato’s fathers)]
- The true circumstances of the central murder of Judgment due to tell don’t show,
- Overcomplicated plots like the Real Estate subplot in Judgment.

Ugh the shogi and mahjong mini games drive me nuts! I'm convinced no matter how it's explained to me I will never get how to play mahjong.

"Not being able to beat up women' is an interesting complaint to have for a game... I thought it was pretty well established Kiryu doesn't beat up girls. That's why Nagoshi never wanted him in a fighting game unless they did what they do for Sanji in some One Piece games where they change his attacks if he's fighting a woman. Although I guess since Nagoshi isn't around anymore Sega might feel differently and market him out more if they feel like it.

That’s Kiryu though since 4 the games have introduced newer characters who’ve never really had such compunctions. Hell one of the characters in 4 has to train with a female character to unlock his moves who you can’t directly attack but throwing her into walls is perfectly fine. Not to mention with 7 and 8 both having playable female characters who can be hit by the exclusively male enemies this gets even wonkier. Though of course they still made some concessions there such as how Kiryu in his boss fights will never attack any of the female characters if they’re in your party and during your boss fight with Saejima & Goro their team up attack will oddly not involve the female characters getting hit.

And as I already mentioned you still have the problem of Kiryu fighting a transwoman as an optional boss as part of 0’s real estate side quest.

And like the inconsistency mentioned above Sanji in those game will still hit the female characters despite the character’s noted chivalry in the manga.

RGG feels like a real troll right now. RGG7G preorders were dead even between the PS5 and PS4 version with the PS4 version showing better strength before release. MC (superior tracker) announces that the game sold 180k in 3 days, which created a discrepancy with Famitsu's 123k (PS5: 63k, PS4: 60k). Don't feel like repeating the rest. RGG8 was another even battle between both versions in preorders, but here we have the PS5 version soundly beating it, but this a main numbered game and it still ended up with 180k in 3 days, the same as RGG7G.

Supaidaman 2 bundle is definitely done now. Might still appear one last time, but its done.

1. Weird of you to link a IGN article when ANN made an article for it several articles before this sales post. It stated RGG8 "shipped" 1 million, which is what Sega's article on their website stated (physical shipments + digital sales).

2. Weird of you to use a WHOLE 7 days worth of sales data on a game in a chart that covers 3 days of physical tracking in 1 region. That made sense to you. A 180k start automatically puts it at over 200k with PSN digital.
