I think the Mini Direct was pretty decent, though some of the reveals were leak there were a few surprises.
- NieR: this was rumored a couple of days before the Direct but still was kind of a surprise, don't remember as many people asking for a Switch port as they did with Persona but at least more people can try it. It'll be interesting to see the technical analysis for this version.
- Bomberman: it seems that these days Konami is interested in making small games, which to be fair, seems to have worked out well for them, but for fans series like Metal Gear and Silent Hill things don't look very promising.
- Megaman: I've never played any of the Battle Network games but I remember watching the anime when it aired on Fox Kids. I'd like to see a Megaman Legends collection, though a remake would be preferable.
- Pac-Man: nice to see Namco giving attention to their mascot. That reminds me that in the second season of Tiger & Bunny Kotetsu has a Pac-Man logo in his hero suit.
- Monkey Island: I'm not a fan of the artstyle, I'd have preferred if it looked like the original PC game.
- Sonic: the game looks rough on Switch but I guess SEGA couldn't ignore it since Sonic games tend to sell well on Nintendo systems. Just hope it plays well.
- Persona: it's been a long ride but it finally happened, don't know why it took so long to port them, but I hope they sell well on both Nintendo and Xbox.
I know most of the games shown on the Direct were ports of old games but the fact that they're porting them means that developers know that there's at least some interest and I don't think they can ignore the Switch's installbase of more that 100 million. It'd be nice if there were more games made with the Switch's hardware in mind like MH: Rise but I guess developers didn't expect the Switch to be that popular, and even 5 years later they aren't ready to make new games for it

I too was surprised Tactics Ogre didn't show up, but at this point it's only a matter of time.

-Nier: They already said it'll be a locked 30 FPS. Considering how it's more of an action RPG than a straight up action game like Bayonetta we'll see how it goes. It wasn't all that consistent with performance when it first came out. And give me A2 in a Samus costume!

-Pac-Man World: ...'Kay

-Dragon Quest Treasures: About time we got another version of the mystery dungeon games.

-Persona: Yes to the games on Switch, no to live-action adaptations.

Good stuff overall. Live A Live demo has been an interesting experience, showing just how varied the different stories are not just in narrative but gameplay.

Well, well, well... Heidi's last article. The results:

Quote:
Yes, my friends, it's Nintendo Direct time again! My wish to discuss at least one more Nintendo Direct before I depart has been granted, and I am ever so thankful.

Wait for it.....

Quote:
Yeah, that leaked Tactics Ogre re-release I'm really excited for wasn't shown, but there were plenty of other announcements to make up for it.

There it is. I'll be honest, I didn't expect you to mention it, but you did... and that's it. The difference between the 1st quote and 2nd quote is night and day. You can wish for something and be so thankful that it was it was granted, but (as the person publishing the article) when you intentionally try to connect a PlayStation listing of a game with it appearing in a Direct in order to will it into existence because of your bias towards a certain platform, you don't admit you took the L on this... as expected. No, the other announcements don't make up for it. You said and did something and were wrong. I told you that "nothing is revealing anything" (oh, but my post was removed for telling the facts and sourced your past examples). That's your L going on the road. Give back the same energy you put into trying a will a game into a Direct by owning it when you are wrong. Lastly, the one thing that makes this comes full circle is the fact that the description in that Tactics Ogre PS listing (which you did not mention) stated "dummy". And that just makes me laugh.

Quote:
It's unfortunate that the GameCube action-oriented spinoff Network Transmission isn't included, but apparently there are some rights issues involved, so it's understandable.

Not unfortunate actually. If anyone were paying attention to the previous 3 (Rockman, X, Zero) collection releases, they would know that the collections only contain main games. It has nothing to do with rights issues.

On the topic of EXE, it would be great for the overseas release to have the cut content that was removed. I would forgive the extra long delay if they did that and fixed the script, but I'm not holding my breath. And because someone will think, Operate Shooting Star's only chance of being in the collection was always in Ryuusei no Rockman because it is post RnR 3 and it wouldn't make sense to introduce a sequel character 200 years into the future after that characters 3rd game in the 1st game of EXE.

That's the end. As always, Cloud >>> Zack per Japanese polls.

Assuming this was outside the U.S.? as the show originally aired on Kids WB here.

At least you’re being polite about it unlike the rest of the Monkey Island fandom. Though seeing it for the first time myself I’m not too fond of it myself.

Guess this a good time to mention the live action FMA sequel apparently didn’t do too good in Japan for all that promotional hype.

Quote:

The story behind this is long and bizarre, but the short version is: Namco didn't fully own the rights to Ms. Pac-Man due to a complex development licensing arrangement decades ago, and those rights somehow got sold to trash-tier drugstore checkout mini console maker AtGames, whom current Bandai-Namco does not want to deal with.

I mean given ATGames track record for putting out gaming peripherals featuring licensed games of dubious quality no one can blame them

I feel people should be numb to bad live-action Hollywood adaptions at this point. Let Japanese companies get that fat Hollywood paycheck so they can finance more games, let Hollywood put out it's usual tripe, everyone makes fun of it for a week then we forget it exists. Looking forward to seeing Persona with either Degrassi or The CW level of cringe.

Otherwise... I'll agree Monkey Island art is not good at all. Shame. Thimbleweed Park from years ago was a decent little Ron Gilbert throwback (minus the ending) with a decent style. Would have liked to see it in that style. Wasn't a fan of the Special Editions art styles either, but at least you could toggle those back to the retro graphics.

When they say video games are bigger than films and music put together, they mean this: This Opportunity for Investors Is Bigger Than Movies and Music Combined, Nasdaq, Published Oct 3, 2021 9:45AM EDT.

Quote:
It's tempting to look at the video game industry as a small niche targeting only a select portion of the population. However, the global video game industry is almost a $200 billion market, surpassing traditional entertainment venues like movies and music.

In this clip from Backstage Pass, recorded on Sept. 13, the Motley Fool's Sanmeet Deo, Clay Bruning, and Jon Quast give investors an overview of this important industry, including the fastest growing segment of the market.

To the dismay of many if not most console and pc gamers everywhere (I'm primarily a pc gamer myself these days, but facts are facts), the fastest growing segment of the video game market are mobile games.

According to the Sega Sammy Group 2022 Fiscal Year Results Presentation:

Quote:
Midterm plan: Strengthen the Global Branding of Existing IPs

Grow "mainstay IPs" as global brand

1 Expanding touchpoints

2 Prolonging product life cycles

3 Strengthening user engagement: Strengthening the mix of media, expanding SONIC's brand awareness

"Strengthening user engagement" includes the Sonic the Hedgehog Hollywood films and the Sonic Prime animated series on Netflix.

I'm sorry someone above was so disrespectful to u with their language Heidi. With that said, I'd like to ask can you confirm what legal issues u'r refing to here for Megaman NT Transmission? I'd also like to mention that as was said main series are the only ones included sadly (Despite the fact NT takes place after BN1 but b4 BN2 its game play is likely why its a spin off) and that includes the omission of the GBA game BCC and the (I think GBA?) 4.5 game itself which only released in Japan but had u use REAL battle chips with a kids toy P.E.T. to connect to the 4.5 game using a battle gate accessory (I think the battle gate was a thing) so u could play the game. I'm unsure if it could be played without but I think it could be. The Navis acted on their own in 4.5 and BCC though so yeah. 4.5 got a fan translation though so it can be played but i'll say no more on that. As for the US, that P.E.T. toy and the battle chips themselves WERE released in the US, but not the battle gate or 4.5 game...

As for legal issues, if there actually are any, I'm sure they could sort them out like they did for the PS3/PSP rerelease of MML 1, 2 and Tron Bonne as getting a hold of Teisel's VA was an issue seemingly and theorized for why we weren't getting rereleases of the games. Sicne Capcom was able to clear that legal hurdle up I have no doubt they can do so for MML LC and anything else that may pose a challenge, or ya know, if they can't, they could always get new VA, music or whatever to make up for the issues (See Sonic 3 in Origins which had to replace music due to legal issues with the Jackson estate)

Rockman.EXE 4.5 Real Operation didn't require an extra peripheral to play, but the Battle Chip Gate did work with it and BN4. I am still baffled that Capcom hasn't remade Real Operation as a mobile game yet. Smart phones are quite literally PETs, and the gameplay loop was very much prototypical of the modern mobile RPG. Imagine having your own Net Navi on your phone, like in that utopian future we should have been living in already.

Yes, I'm from South America and Megaman NT Warrior was aired on Fox Kids here. Fox Kids LA had a segment called "Invasión Anime" (Anime Invasion) that aired shows like Shaman King, Patlabor, Medabots, Shinzo, Digimon, among others. I remember that in the Spanish dub MegaMan.Exe was voiced by Gabriel Ramos, who used to voice Ash Ketchum, while Lan Hikari was voiced by Enzo Fortuny, who is best known for vocing characters like Inuyasha, Natsu and Miyuki Shirogane. Another fun fact about that dub is that Gutsman.Exe was voiced by the same actor who voiced him in the MegaMan cartoon, Juan Carlos Tinoco, but the cartoon was dubbed in Colombia while MegaMan NT was dubbed in Mexico, but by sheer coincidence Juan moved from Colombia to Mexico around that time.

The Mini-Direct really made me happy with a lot of those announcements. I never thought I'd live to see Battle Network get re-released in any capacity. It's gonna be great to go through those games again, even if BN4 is really bad and almost killed off the series. With any luck, we'll see collections for Star Force and Legends!

The real surprise about Nier Automata (t-shirt) on the Switch is that they finally canonized 2B's alternate palette-swap from Soul Caliber (aka, "2P") and she's now a playable costume in that port! The kimono is a cute look too.

Also, in what was definitely a case of the news coming out after the deadline: Ultra-Kaiju Monster Rancher was confirmed for a US release! I was very happy to see this. Ultraman is so easily overlooked in the US, and the Monster Rancher games haven't gotten much love at all. I am so thrilled to raise Eleking and Jamila and all those other weird Ultra-Kaiju.

2P also appeared in Final Fantasy XIV, as an ally in the raid series YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse, which is supposedly in some way canon to the NieR series (it got weird). I'm kinda wondering if there will be a quest addressing the crossover, but I did platinum (ha) Automata only a few months ago, and I'm not quite emotionally ready to go back.

If I had to make a guess, it'd likely be the fact that Network Transmission specifically has "Shogakukan/ShoPro/TV Tokyo" included in the copyright, and those are the companies involved with the Mega Man NT Warrior anime series. Because of that, Network Transmission is technically considered to be based on the anime, not an original Battle Network game, so it has extra licensing problems that the main entry games don't have, as Capcom owns the sole copyright to those.
