Unless development was being done in Ukraine or Russia (as there are several studios) for the reboot/remake I call BS.

They are using the current situation as an excuse for another delay to give them additional time.

I may be wrong, and the "later announcement" may correct the situation, but I don't buy it.

I'm assuming that this has nothing to with the game's development but rather the game's content, which is somewhat understable.

For those who don’t know, the story for this game starts with the protagonist’s nation being invaded by a nation that is noticeably based on Russia.

This delay is 100% understandable.

The Japanese and European releases of the original Advance Wars were also delayed by a geopolitical event - the September 11 attacks. The North American release happened just one day before, so it barely escaped the delay.

Mmmmmm, if you know the plot of the game, you would know it's understandable

Saying the optics were bad is probably the nicest way to put it. Hopefully it gets released soon but I completely get the worries.

I remember, when Fukushima happened, two Pokémon episodes were affected.
Team Rocket vs Team Plasma had an earthquake and never aired afterwards.
A fishing contest episode with big water waves was delayed. Might also have been redrawn to lessen the waves, but I don't know about that.

Furthermore, in Madoka Madica, Walpurgisnacht was supposed to be a tsunami/tidal wave and was changed to a cyclone.

They removed anything that could refer to the disaster that occured.

It would have been very impolite toward the victims of the earthquake/tsunami or Fukushima, so they changed content and/or pushed back airing enough to not be a recent event anymore. It's just part of their culture.

It's the same here, to avoid being impolite against the Ukrainians, they pushed back a wargame where a playable country (Blue Moon) is obviously inspired by Russia.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. I thought this was just due to the general war nature of the game (which is also understandable for a delay), but that makes even more sense.

Nerds need to have a better sense of priorities and that some things are more important than more endless entertainment content.

9/11 delayed a looooot of games/films and forced script changes and editing. This war will be a repeat.

The original Advance Wars' North American release date on the GBA was September 10, 2001. That bad timing meant Nintendo didn't release it in Japan at all. It's a series with some cursed release dates, but they did wind up in stores eventually.

Can't find it listed in the eShop anymore (NA). Like others have noted this may be the end of the remake.

Still listed on the website with a "Releasing in TBD" date. Nintendo likely just removed it from the eShop until they have a new release date ready.

I highly doubt that this will become the next Propeller Arena.
