I'm getting the manga when I can, but I am going to say, considering how Mazinger Z: Infinity looked great, I hope Toei Animation really gives a crap about making a Saint Seiya anime that not only plays out well, but looks great too (same thing with the Sailor Moon Crystal movie that may debut that same year)...

So is this like an alternate timeline after the Sanctuary arc then? This could be good, but it's criminal that we're not getting more Lost Canvas. Now that was great. Actually had gold saints doing stuff and they kicked ass.

It's a "side story" to the original manga.

It actually starts shortly before the Galaxian War, then briefly covers the event of the Sanctuary arc, and the core of the story takes place between the Sanctuary arc and Poseidon arc.

Also if follows the original manga rather than the anime so there are fundamental differences there (notably Saori knowing all long she is Athena)

TMS made the Lost Canvas OVAs, not Toei. Also, TMS has admitted that Lost Canvas' second season undersold heavily, hence why no more have been made.

As for Saintia Sho, I can live with next year, and if the Netflix reboot series also gets moved to that year, then I can still see the two productions coexisting, since they are primarily aiming at different markets. Still, that only widens the gap between the last Kurumada anime, Soul of Gold, & the next ones to four years, which is a little sad, because from 2003 to 2015 there was a new anime production based on a Kurumada property made, & you could stretch that to 2016 with the TV airing of Soul of Gold.

You know what could have been made to keep the momentum going, & not just continually wait for more Seiya, though? Toei could have made another season of Ring ni Kakero 1 last year, to celebrate the manga's 40th Anniversary, and this year could have seen an Otoko Zaka anime, to help promote the new volumes that have been made since 2014. That way, Toei could have continued to promote the new Seiya productions, while still giving Kurumada in general some solid attention.

It doesn't look great ever since they decided to use the old school aesthetic instead of going with the one Chimaki chose for the manga where it's like a modernised version of the classics look. Then again, the fault lies with the fans.

I don't know about cast, but for old characters, I believe they will go with Hades OVA / Soul of Gold...

Considering Masakazu Morita is Seiya now, and Toru Furuya most likely won't voice his classic character (maybe older version, like in Omega) anymore, it made me think about another role Furuya could take over - Sagittarius Aiolos.

I absolutely love Yusaku Yara, but he's just too old for Aiolos, no matter how much I admire consistency and keeping the same seiyu from thirty years ago.

EDIT: Oh and, being someone who loves everything Saint Seiya anime, I really wouldn't mind if Toei animated other side story manga as well, like Episode G, for instance, or at least started making new movies.

Yeah, I've got the manga on order as well.

Hopefully it'll not only be faithful to the manga but look good while doing it. By the time this airs, the manga will probably be done at the rate it's going.
